Artist Statement

My work looks at how you get to a place and how you feel once you get there. It is a journey into how art allows you to share who you have found yourself to be. The paintings I am producing allow me to be more sure of why I am here. They are a way of identifying myself, not as an artist, but as a human being, allowing me to leave footprints that cannot be easily erased. My most recent work is a look at the experience of balseros (rafters) both Cuban and Haitian and their experiences at sea and during their time in Guantanamo where I spent a year and a half waiting before coming to the US.
